Microsoft Office and Office 2019 for Mac are available for all current students, staff, and faculty. 

With GFCMSU's Microsoft 365 subscription, you will always have access to the most current version of productivity tools from Microsoft.

Office for Windows applications include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, OneDrive, and Access. 

Office for Mac applications include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and OneNote.

Download and Installation

  • You can install Office on up to 5 devices, which includes Windows PCs, Mac computers, and iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices.
  • Use it for as long as you are enrolled as a student at Great Falls College MSU.

Instructions

It is important that you follow the instructions below for your device/operating system.

 

Your computer may already have Microsoft Office installed!

If your Windows computer was made in the last few years, it might already have Office installed. If it does, you'll just need to follow these steps to sign-in with your @GFCMSU.edu account.

  1. Either click on the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the screen or press the Windows key on your keyboard, to open the applications menu. 
  2. Look for Microsoft Word in the list of programs and click on it.
  3. Look for your name and switch account in the top-right corner and click on switch account
    • If you don't see switch account, open a new Word document, click your name in the top-right corner, and click on switch account.
  4. On the window that opens, click on Add Account.
  5. Where it asks you to enter your email address or username, enter your NetID@gfcmsu.edu and click next.
  6. Enter the password you set from the password portal and click login.

To install Microsoft Office 365

Installation may take some time to complete, so be sure to start this process when you have some time. 

 

  1. Open your web browser and go to the Microsoft Office Portal at https://login.microsoftonline.com.
  2. Enter your NetID@gfcmsu.edu where it says "Email, phone, or Skype" and click Next.
  3. Enter the password you use for Brightspace and Banner Web/MyInfo and click the Sign in button. 
    • Stay Signed In? If you are on a computer you own you can click Yes. If you are on a shared or public computer, be sure to click No.
  4. Near the top right corner of the page, click on Install Office and then click on Office 365 apps.
  5. Depending on the web browser you use, you will either be asked if you want to open or save the installer, or it will automatically be downloaded into your Downloads folder. 
    • Open or Save Prompt - Click Open and the installer will start automatically once it is downloaded.
    • No Prompt - Open the Downloads folder on your Mac and double-click on the installer file. The file will have a name similar to Microsoft_Office_xxxxx.pkg.
  6. When the installer opens, click Continue.
  7. Click the Install button.
  8. Enter your computer's password and then click the Install Software button.
  9. Click the Close button when the installation is complete. 

To Install Microsoft Office 365

You can’t install the Windows or Mac desktop versions of Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 on a Chromebook.

The Android version of OneDrive is not currently supported on a Chromebook.

 

  1. Open the Google Play Store and search for the apps you want to install.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Once your app(s) are installed, click the Launcher on your Chromebook and click on the app to open it.
  4. Sign in with your NetID@gfcmsu.edu when asked to enter your "Email, phone, or Skype". 
  5. Use the same password you use for Brightspace and Banner Web/MyInfo.

To Install Office 365 on Apple iOS

When installing Office 365 on your iPhone or iPad you download and install each app individually. You only need to install those apps you’d like to use.

 

  1. Tap the App Store icon.
  2. Tap the Search icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Enter Office 365 and tap Search.
  4. Choose the app you wish to install and tap GET and then tap INSTALL.
  5. Enter your Apple ID password, use Face ID, or Touch ID (depending on your device and settings).
  6. Once the download is complete, tap OPEN.
  7. On the Sign In screen that opens, enter your NetID@gfcmsu.edu, where it prompts you to enter your email address or phone number, and tap NEXT. (This is not your student email address).
  8. Enter the password you use for Brightspace and Banner Web/MyInfo and click Sign In
  9. Repeat these steps for any other Office apps you'd like to install on the device. 

 

You won't need to sign in for any additional Office apps you install on this device. 

To Install Office 365 on Android Devices

  1. Search the Google Play Store for Microsoft Office Mobile.
  2. Select Microsoft Office Mobile and click INSTALL.
  3. Click ACCEPT.
  4. Wait for Microsoft Office Mobile to finish downloading to your device.
  5. Click the OPEN button.
  6. Click Sign In.
  7. When prompted to enter your email address or phone number, enter your NetID@gfcmsu.edu (this is not your student email address) and click NEXT.
  8. Enter the password you use for Brightspace and Banner Web/MyInfo and click Sign In
  9. You may see a "What's New" page, click the arrow in the bottom right corner to move past it. 
  10. Your Office Mobile apps should now be ready to use. 

To Use Microsoft Office Web Apps

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://login.microsoftonline.com.
  2. Enter your NetID@gfcmsu.edu, and click Next.
  3. Enter the password you use for Brightspace and Banner Web/MyInfo and click Sign In.
  4. When asked if you want to "Stay Signed In?",
    • On Your Own Personal Computer - Click Yes or No, it's up to you.
    • On a Public or Shared Computer - Click No.

You are now logged into the Microsoft Office Portal. You should see a list of all of the recent files you have saved to OneDrive or that have been shared with you. If you see the document you wish to edit in this list, you can click on it to open it in the web based version of the appropriate Office app. For example, clicking on a Word document will open it in the web based version of Microsoft Word. You will be able to edit the document in this view and all changes that are made will be auto saved back to the document in OneDrive.  

 

When using a public or shared computer, be sure to click your avatar or initials in the top right corner of the page and click Sign Out when you are finished to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
